Spotify’s new AI app can generate daily briefings and personalized podcasts for you

Just a month after enabling users to build podcast playlists with a simple prompt, Spotify is taking personalization a step further. The company has unveiled Studio by Spotify Labs, a new standalone desktop application that uses generative AI to create entirely personal podcasts, daily briefings, and playlists tailored to each user’s life. The app leverages your listening history across music, podcasts, and audiobooks, and with permission, can also tap into your calendar, inbox, and notes to generate content that fits your daily schedule and interests.

Announced by Spotify News on May 21, 2026, Studio is launching as a Research Preview for users aged 18 and above in more than 20 markets over the coming weeks. The app is conversational—users interact with it like a chatbot, describing what they want, and the AI builds the audio around the request. For instance, you could ask it to create a daily briefing for a road trip using your bookings and calendar, recommend a dinner spot along the route, and wrap up with a podcast you would enjoy during the drive. The AI agent can also browse the web in real time to pull current news, trends, or local recommendations, shaping the audio content dynamically.

Everything generated in Studio saves directly to your Spotify library and syncs across all your devices, so it moves seamlessly from your desktop to your commute. Importantly, the content you create is private and not available publicly. Spotify emphasizes that this is an early preview and the AI can make mistakes, encouraging users to review outputs before relying on them. The move reflects a broader industry trend toward AI-generated audio. Google’s NotebookLM has been generating AI podcasts since 2024, and Amazon and Microsoft have since introduced similar features in Alexa Plus and the Edge browser. However, Spotify’s advantage lies in its existing user base that is already immersed in audio, providing a more natural home for such features compared to a notes app or a browser.

The launch also follows Spotify’s recent release of the 'Save to Spotify' tool for developers using Claude Code or OpenClaw, enabling them to generate personal podcasts. Studio now brings the same capability to all users without the need for any coding. As the app rolls out, it will be interesting to see how users adopt this level of personalization. The potential for daily briefings that combine news, personal schedule, and entertainment in a single, automatically generated podcast could redefine how people consume audio. By pulling from real-time web data and personal information, Studio aims to create a uniquely tailored listening experience that evolves with each user’s daily life. With competition growing from tech giants like Google and Microsoft, Spotify is betting that its deep integration with music, podcasts, and audiobooks will give it an edge in the rapidly expanding AI audio space.
