Reservoirs: Projects that are in the pipeline
Major reservoirs in the Telugu states are facing water shortage due to the intense summer . Water reserves in the common reservoirs are decreasing significantly day by day. The Srisailam reservoir built on the Krishna river has a capacity of 215 TMC, but currently only 39 TMC is left. The Nagarjunasagar project is also facing a similar situation. Out of the total capacity of 312 TMC, only 141 TMC is left at present.
Summer effect
Factors such as increased water usage during the summer season and lack of rainfall are leading to this situation. With the water level in the Sagar reservoir continuing to drop, Hyderabad will soon need emergency pumping if the water level drops by another five feet. This is likely to affect the drinking water supply to the city's residents.
Awareness on how to use water wisely
Keeping in mind the current situation, governments and irrigation departments should focus on efficient water management. There is also a need to create awareness among the people so that they can utilize water efficiently. Otherwise, there may be a situation where we will face a serious crisis for drinking water in the coming days.
